Pet Hospice and Education Center

New announcement:

Retiring from general practice, Dr. Shearer is committing all of her time to the Pet Hospice and Education Center and is lecturing around the country to bring quality hospice care service to pets into every community.  She is relocating to North Carolina.  Her new office at 919 Haywood Road, Dillsboro, NC has a tentative opening date of August 1.

I will greatly miss all of the great people and pets that I have cared for over the past 22 years.  I am sad that I could not say good-bye to everyone in person.

For clients that I have seen in the past, I encourage you to meet my past associates at VCA like Dr. Bethel, Dr. Crisp, Dr. Beckett, Dr. Watters, Dr. Bando, and Dr. Gertz.

Dr. Tami Shearer and Dr. Blair Bethel
welcome you to the
Pet Hospice and Education Center website
.

The Pet Hospice and Education Center was founded by Dr. Tami Shearer in 2003.   In 2004, our Hospice and Education Center became a non-profit organization.  Dr. Shearer has been practicing hospice care since 1987 when she started making extensive house calls.

The goal of our Center is to educate pet owners and the general public about all aspects of pet care for the long-term benefit of society to preserve the relationship between pets and people.  Emphasis is placed on but not limited to hospice care and children's programs.

The hospice aspect of the Center applies hospice guidelines adopted from human hospice to prevent unnecessary suffering and to help pet owners cope with the upcoming loss of their loved one.  The goal is to provide comfort without prolonging suffering.
